Description

Back in 2017, the ‘Buy Bitcoin” sign popped up behind then-Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen as she spoke about monetary policy live on C-Span, instantly turning the moment into a meme and etched in the memory of crypto advocates forever. The sign-holder, Christian Langalis, etched himself into crypto history. The notepad itself ended up later selling for 16 BTC ($1M at that time).

Mie’s piece is an homage to the courageous work that Laggalis did on the floor. In her piece, we see a Charles Hoskinson, Founder of Cardano, holding a ‘Buy Ada” sign.

The Artist

Mie (Maggie Schmidt) is a graduate of University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a Bachelors of Arts in Vocal Performance. She holds an Associates Degree from Milwaukee Area Technical College in Audio Production. She is a recording and performing artist under the name “Mie”, where she has been a featured artist in Wisconsin Music Ventures and PBS. She is a former Milwaukee Bucks Dancer and recently modeled as the “Face of Europe” for Abbot and Blood Center of America’s Mixed Reality Experience. She is a former Marketing Manager for Monarch Creative and Production Manager at Audiofile.

“Through this piece, I aimed to capture the tension between traditional “old” finance and the new wave of decentralized systems like Cardano. The ‘Buy ADA’ sign, held by Charles Hoskinson, symbolizes a hopeful future, challenging the old guard’s grip on power. It’s our way forward to re-establish trust and transparency in our financial institutions.”
